Agile Requirements: Not an Oxymoron, Ellen Gottesdiener

Chris will be delivering the Seminar The Corporate Strategy for IT in London, 20-21 March and 20-21 November.

One of my all-time favorite data books is the 1978 classic, Data and Reality, by William Kent. There is a 3rd edition of this book coming out on 1 March 2012, and I had the honor of not only publishing this book, but also adding commentary throughout the book including writing the Preface.

I would like to dedicate this article to this book, and summarize my thoughts on this book by sharing a subset of the Preface I wrote for Data and Reality, 3rd Edition (ISBN 9781935504214). If I was to summarize one of key messages in this book, it would be that there are still many unresolved data management challenges that were raised 35 years ago.

One of the challenges with defining architecture and particularly enterprise architecture is that an architect has many different roles. But one question we dont often ask is should they be performing those roles, or put another way, what roles should architects be performing? This led to another question: Are we doing architecture?
