1. Architecting Innovation, Expanding the EA Toolbox, Louise Harris

Organizations are increasingly focusing on innovation, in addition to incremental improvement, in all aspects of their business. How can the field of Enterprise Architecture contribute to successful innovation? Download the article

2. The Business Architect’s Service Portfolio, Jeff Scott

Business architecture is a practice, not a deliverable. The business architect’s role is not to create blueprints and models but to apply a set of tools and techniques to define broader perspectives, create deeper insights, and solve complex business problems. Download the article.

3. What’s Really Different about Big Data Analytics? Fern Halper

Big data analytics can be viewed in a couple of ways. On the one hand, organizations are using it to extend what they have been doing in analytics and do it faster or perhaps more accurately in order to improve decision-making. For example, you might have a model that predicts churn. Maybe that model took hours to run on your existing infrastructure. With a big data infrastructure in place, it might now take minutes. 4. The Business Analyst and the Unified Process, Ed Walters

The Unified Process (UP) describes an adaptable change process, originally conceived as applicable to the process of building software. This paper explores the potential involvement of the Business Analyst with UP at 2 levels:

• UP when used as the basis for a software development lifecycle (SDLC)

• UP when used as the basis for a business change lifecycle (BCLC). Download the article.

5. Data Governance - The Global Dimension, Nigel Turner

I can recall a time, in a not so far off and distant past, when engaging business and IT people in the topic of data governance was a bit like using a self-service checkout in a supermarket. You gathered up your wares and approached the till. It appeared easy at first sight, but as soon as you put your goods on the table you were usually met with robotic indifference or even metallic cries of ‘unexpected Item’ and advised to go and seek help elsewhere. But I sense a real change is happening at last. In April London again became the focus for Data Governance and MDM professionals when the annual Data Governance / MDM Europe event hit town.
