Graham Bolton Graham Bolton
Managing Partner
The OSQR Group

Graham Bolton is an experienced data modelling practitioner and a renowned software quality expert with a remarkable talent for systems performance improvement. Since choosing to specialize in database systems in 1982, he has designed and programmed large and complex systems around the globe, including those at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Agency, NATO, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority and the South African Ports Authority. His 21-year involvement with the Postcode Lotteries of the Netherlands, UK and Sweden is a source of particular professional pleasure—the lotteries have raised nearly €7 billion for 318 charities.  His passion for well-written, highly-maintainable software led Graham to establish the Cambridge-based Institute for Software Quality (IfSQ) in 2005 (where he is currently chairman) as well as its commercial counterpart, The OSQR Group, in 2010.  He represents the IfSQ on the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC7 Software and Systems Engineering mirror committee NEN 381007. Graham has designed and implemented a Reference Data Management (RDM) system which pinpoints semi-static data in two time dimensions: validity (the period for which a given value applies, in retrospect where necessary—defined by two points in calendar time) and transactional (the registration time—the moment that an update was registered in RDM). This level of detail is particularly useful when investigating anomalies caused by failed updates, delayed processing etc.  An accomplished speaker, Graham remains committed to furthering and promoting best practice to the software development industry and their clients around the world.
